Autumn in the southern mountains of Spain. Here, the summer burns the landscape to a dusty beige. A vista in ashy, earthy tones. But as the months march on, bringing cooler temperatures and rain- the colours begin to creep back up the hills one flower at a time.

And finally, one day, you may find yourself immersed in a world of the deepest of saturated hues. Dark gold sunny days draped in vibrant green and the jewel tones of the flowers. The garden is awake again. Sharp sunshine replaces the dull haze of summer with high contrasts and crisp black shadows. Sultry afternoon breezes carry the scent of the newly-blooming flowers.
Autumn invites you to join its garden party. Catch the breeze in your black lace dresses and flowing tunics. Wear the gold sun as jewelry on your arms. Paint the scarlet of the rose petals onto your lips and glide backwards into the embrace of cold blue water.
While certainly best suited those shimmering pools tucked away in walled gardens half submerged beneath rose vines… the sultry Spanish garden party look can also transfer easily from the pool side to an evening out.
Think black tulle, dresses or skirts in layers either silky or filmy…flowing black fabrics that sway or float on the breeze- to move with you as you walk and show a just hint of bronzed skin. If wearing all black isn’t your cup of tea, try cool and deep jewel tones like wine, plum, or a dark emerald. Go for simple gold jewelry but don’t be afraid of one or two semi-precious stones as a natural statement. A single carnelian, emerald quartz, yellow jasper, or a blue agate would be stunning.
Think of them as memories of the flowers to take with you. If you carry the memory of the flowers in the rich tint of your lipstick instead, keep the rest of your makeup minimal. Maybe just a wisp of winged eyeliner with a dewy, warm complexion. A hint of bronzer or shimmer gives the kissed by the sun feeling. A woven basket clutch to hold your rose-red lipstick and braided or woven sandals complete your “evening in the garden” look.
