Beyond the Ridge

One green gold planet hangs low in the deep cobalt night.
Below, seemingly just below, the rocky outline of barren mountains creates a sharp contrast between earth and sky.
These burnt orange mountains with silent piles of boulders and towers of stone look as though they are the elite audience of the starry choir above. Doubtful a human could ever hear the music of the stars. Perhaps if one could be as open and still and silent as the stones, one could hear it after a very long time. But this place is too complicated to traverse, too barren, too dry to accommodate humans. A wasteland of mysteriously shaped stone mountains laid bare to the sky. Raw and simple, the fact that this is a small planet hurtling through space is so apparent here. Maybe just over that ridge, right under the glittering band of the Milky Way, angels congregate. That hushed and awestruck feeling hangs in the air as more and more stars make their appearance.
